Bullocks lead market

BULLOCK quality this week showed an improvement on last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, with weights up 10 to 15 kilos, and prices rose in accordance.
Heifers also weighed heavier on average, demand tended to keep prices firm on previous sales, steers also remained firm, but weights were also heavier than the previous week which lifted the average price per head by approximately $40.
Vealers sold to strong demand with a good quality yarding of processor cattle and several pen lots of store types.
Bullocks faired from 153.6 to 186.6, up two cents to average 178.9; heifers made from 90.2 to 189.2 firm; steers made from 115.2 to 199.6 to stay firm; vealers ranged from 117.6 to 231.2 up four cents.
Cows and bulls managed to ease in price this Thursday, mainly due to the fact that one major processor will be closing for several weeks for annual maintenance and therefore didn’t require the usual amount of stock.
For bulls, weight and condition were easier, and prices ranged from 130 to 175.2 to average seven cents easier.
Bullocks of lighter formation sold to easier demand, prices ranged from 101.6 to 188, to average 167.4.
A large yarding of cows sold to reasonably easier demand making to 165 cents, the easier demand saw cows retreat five cents on average with price range from 71.6 to 165 cents.
