BERWICK Village Chamber of Commerce has been a driving force for business and is hopeful of signing on its 100th member.
The chamber has been the mouthpiece for business people and this recent growth in support is well earned.
Chamber president Mike Hall sees an even larger role for the chamber in the growth of the area.
He sees a business precinct larger than the Melbourne Central Business District and persists with his idea that Berwick will become the Cambridge of Victoria.
The Government has endorsed Berwick as a place for a major technology park and this, linked with the retail sector of the village and the education precinct, has the potential to provide a vibrant place with highskilled jobs and good living.
The technology park will be created in the area south of the railway station east of Chisholm Institute.
The chamber has mooted for discussion as part of the technology park moving the railway station to provide more parking and a large passenger bus interchange.
Mr Hall has even suggested that the station be built underground with the ground level above it used to provide more commercial space.
These are exciting times for the southeast, not just Berwick.
