Big demand for young cattle

ANOTHER very small yarding of young cattle created stronger demand at VLE Pakenham. Although there were some very good quality cattle penned, there were heavier and older cattle yarded. All of the current buyers were present, but not all operated fully, as price and supply affected competition.
Even though there were some excellent quality cattle penned, and a number of good quality vealers and yearlings as well, the percentage of these cattle was less than the previous sale. Both of these scenarios assisted in price increases of up to 14 cents per kilogram.
Most vealers and better quality yearlings made between 185 cents and 215 cents with the top quality vealers making to 236 cents, and supplementary fed steers to 240 cents per kilogram.
There was a good number of yearlings that made from 165 cents to 195 cents per kilogram that were purchased by trade buyers, feedlots and restockers. Prices here were also firm to dearer with better competition seen throughout the sale.
Even though there were more heavy and older cattle penned, demand was strong here also, and prices were up to 10 cents per kilogram higher. There were some very good quality steers penned, some of these being supplementary fed, and prices for the steers were between 170 cents and 188 cents per kilogram. Heifers made mostly from 148 cents to 164 cents per kilogram.
The next Store Sale is Thursday 3 September commencing at 10am.
