THE heartbroken mother of missing Pakenham man Nathan Giles, whose 23rd birthday falls this Sunday, hopes her son is still alive.
Kerry James said she was still waiting for a phone call about Nathan, and would spend her son’s birthday waiting for that call as she has done for the past two months since Nathan disappeared.
“I will stay at home and wait on that call that’s never come in,” she said.
“I’m hoping (he’s alive), but as time goes on… a person doesn’t just vanish.”
Nathan Giles was last seen in Pakenham on the morning of 20 July.
His car, a 1990 silver Holden Commodore, was discovered in bushland in Pakenham Upper four days later.
Two searches of the surrounding scrub involving SES crews, Rescue Squad officers, the Police Air Wing and Dog Squad revealed no clues to his disappearance.
Mrs James and her daughter Bree Giles flew down from Brisbane last month to appeal for new information after an anonymous caller told Crime Stoppers that Nathan was in possession of a firearm.
Detective Senior Constable Michael O’Neil said the male tipster, who made the call on 29 July after local media reports, could have vital information.
But appeals for that man to again come forward have fallen on deaf ears.
“We haven’t heard from him, but we still want to hear from him,” Det Sen Const O’Neil said.
“We would like any new information, anything people might have heard.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Bruders, of Pakenham Police, said there had been no activity on Nathan’s mobile phone or bank account since his disappearance.
“The investigation is still ongoing, and we are still relying on people to come forward. Basically, it is still a mystery as to what happened to him,” he said.
Mrs James urged anyone who may have information on Nathan’s disappearance or who sighted him or his car on 20 July to share their information with police.
“Everyone’s completely baffled,” Mrs James said.
“We are just waiting for that call. Everyday Bree goes to work, comes home and logs on to the computer (to search for information on Nathan) but there is nothing.”
