Primary target for award

RIVER Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith wants the council to expand the number of young people who receive the Casey Australia Day Study Award.
Cr Smith said the council had granted the awards for 21 years to young people in Year 11 or of equivalent age who lived, worked, studied or had a strong link with the municipality.
He said the population in the area had more than doubled in the award’s history, and that there was opportunity to expand the boundaries.
And Cr Smith suggested it be taken into the primary school level.
Council officers were asked to investigate and suggest new opportunities that could create a juniorlevel award.
