Competition lacking due to missing buyers

HEIFERS faired best last week in a sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, that saw all categories ease to varying rates.
Extra bullocks failed to attract extra competition, mainly due to the fact that a couple of major buyers were not in attendance.
Forty seven bullocks eased eight cents to 173.3cents with a range from 134.2 cents to 181 cents.
As mentioned heifers tried to change the trend but missed by two cents to equal last week’s price, ranging from 128 cents to 200 cents for heavy and the light heifers all made 130 cents.
Steers were hardest hit backing off 16 cents to 165.7 cents, heavy steers topped at 187.6 cents and started at 126.6 cents. Light prices were from 122.6 cents to 124.6 cents.
Light vealers bought their average back five cents to 177.8 cents, top end was of usual quality but the trend was set, heavy vealers ranged from 124.6 cents to 225 cents and light from 100 cents to 196.6 cents.
The absence of one major bullock and cow buyer on Thursday resulted in a price decrease across the board.
Twelve bulls saw their average slip two cents to 147.3 cents with prices starting at 115 cents and reached 163.2 cents.
Twenty one bullocks saw bidding a little easier, the range for bullocks was 96 cents to 154.2 cents.
Four hundred and thirty one cows retreated four cents to 119.5 cents, with light cows taking the brunt.
Heavy cows did ease but very slightly, cow range was 71.2 cents to 148.6 cents for heavy and 50 cents to 110 cents for light.
