Day to test road skills

AMATEUR and veteran drivers can tests their road skills this Sunday at Pakenham Auto Club’s Motorkhana.
The event, at the club’s McGregor Roads grounds, will feature skilled driving tests for three age groups- juniors aged 12 and under, juniors aged 15 to 18, and adults.
Motorkhana co-ordinator Peter Morrison said the event was a great opportunity to learn important driving techniques. “Motorkhana is aimed at teaching hand-eye coordination for car control,” Mr Morrison said. “Motorkhana is a competition but it’s a friendly, low-key competition. Juniors who get involved usually get quite a buzz from it.”
A Come and Try Day will be held prior to the Motorkhana, where youth aged 12 and over can learn basic car control skills in a controlled and safe environment.Participants will be briefed on safety before participating in a test which is designed to improve driving skills and car control. Any youth wanting to attend the Come and Try Day must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The Come and Try event begins at 8.30am and finishes about 10.45am. The Motorkhana will follow and is expected to finish at 4pm.
Mr Morrison said if junior participants do not have access to a car for the Motorkhana, they can pay a fee and use a Pakenham Auto Club car. Participants must be a member of Pakenham Auto Club and hold an appropriate CAMS licence, both which can be organised at the event.
