Police pursuit for run away driver

A MAN allegedly led police on two high speed chases through Pakenham before dumping his car in a residential backyard.
There was also a 400 metre foot chase before the driver was caught, police said.
The pursuit started in Bald Hill Road at 8.12pm Friday after police clocked a car travelling at 180km/h in a 60km/h zone.
It continued to Seven Mile Road, Nar Nar Goon, but police abandoned the chase because of excessive speed.
However, a marked police car on Healesville-Kooweerup Road re-engaged the pursuit, as the car again reached speeds of up to 180km/h.
Police said they were led through many parts of central Pakenham including Main Street, McGregor Road, Cunningham Crescent and Sandalwood Drive before the car smashed into a fence at the intersection of Bald Hill Road and Webster Way.
But the chase wasn’t over.
“The offender then reversed out with a now busted oil slump and continued down Bald Hill Road, causing excessive blue smoke and an oil slick on the carriageway,” Sergeant Nigel Atkins said.
The car turned left into Tania Court where it drove into a backyard.
He said the man leapt from his car and was chased for 400 metres before he was caught by police in Katjusha Court. The vehicle was impounded.
Police have charged a 21-year-old Pakenham man with reckless conduct endangering persons, drive in a manner dangerous to the public, evade police and other traffic offences.
He will appear at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court in November.
