Demand boosts prices across the board

BETTER demand pushed prices upward across all categories at the Fat Cattle Sale last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Two hundred and thirty eight head were yarded with 29 bullocks on hand and their price rose two cents to 168.6 cents, with price ranges from 116.2 cents to 177 cents.
Thirty five heifers lifted four cents to 138.8 cents with good quality head available to restockers who took advantage of the situation, range for heavy heifers was 107.2 cents to 170.2 cents and light 107.2 cents to 118.2 cents.
Thirty eight steers offered also rose two cents making an average of 168.7 cents, condition was fair to good with prices from 107.2 cents to 189.2 cents.
One hundred and thirty two vealers with excellent quality amongst the yarding saw a six cent increase in average, heavy vealers made from a low of 30 cents to 232 cents and light 60.6 to 193.6 cents. Sixteen bulls sold to strong demand on Thursday lifting their average 10 cents to 129 cents, with the best making 152 cents, light bulls among the yarding sol to easier demand starting at 116.6.
Four hundred and four cows saw their price average rise six cents to 114.4 cents, as usual among the choppers condition varied across the pens, heavy cows started at 62.6 cents to reach 145 cents and light 70.2 cents to 109.6 cents.
The draw for Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October is as follows: 1, Scotts; 2, Gibbon; 3, Elders; 4, SEJ; 5, Landmark.

Monday’s Calf Market saw 100 less offered with 553 yarded, Friesian Heifers sold easier making to $310, Dairy Bull Calves were also easier selling to $60, while Beef Calves up making to $180.
