CHRISTMAS is fast approaching and the 4C’s Food Bank at Pakenham is gearing up for its busiest time of year.
4C’s stands for Cardinia Combined Churches Caring, a charity organisation that provides food and other support services for people in need.
The food bank’s team of volunteers is beginning to prepare Christmas hampers, which will be distributed to families throughout Cardinia Shire.
Food bank coordinator Jeni Mathieson said registrations were currently being taken, with expectations that up to 500 hampers will be needed to meet demand.
“It goes up every year,” she said.
“Last year we did about 400 and it keeps growing. Six years ago when we started we only did a handful but, as the population has increased, so has the demand.”
Ms Mathieson said donations were welcome.
