Australian Superbike rider Chris Williams throws his Yamaha R1 around Phillip Island in last weekend’s round of the Australian Superbike championship.

BERWICK speedster Chris Williams had an up-and-down weekend at Phillip Island on his Scorpion Racegear/Stafford-Yamaha R1, during round seven of the Australian Superbike championships.
Williams consolidated his first qualifying time with a faster time to start the first race from grid position one.
He got away to a great start and led the field, opening up a buffer over his rivals, before pouring on the pressure all the way to the chequered flag, taking the win and setting a personal best time around the Phillip Island track.
Unfortunately Williams crashed out of the second and third races on the weekend and apart from his pride was uninjured, plus the disappointment of letting down his team that included his wife Kim.
“I was rapt with the first race-podium finish, but I just pushed a little too hard on the first lap of the second race on Sunday morning and lost it,” he said.
“I was disappointed to let the team down after so much work went in to the weekend, but it was a tremendous effort to get the bike repaired and on the grid for the final race.
“Unfortunately I had a brake problem in that race and went off again.”
