FOR the week ending Monday, 14 November, total yarding at the VLE Pakenham was 3533 plus bobby calves.
This number consisted of 1536 cattle on Monday, 1269 on Tuesday and 728 at Thursday’s store sale.
Very strong competition for best quality B muscle vealers saw the top price return to higher levels.
There was a good selection of vealers and yearlings penned in a much larger yarding, which included a number of older cattle.
Stronger feedlot and restocker demand saw prices for better quality cattle lift by up to seven cents per kilogram.
Because of the volume of cattle purchased to feed-on trade price averages were a little lower but best quality vealers made up to 256.6 cents, and most other good quality made between 190 cents and 235 cents per kilogram.
Prices varied between unchanged and 10 cents per kilogram lower with demand varying throughout the sale.
A reasonable selection of older steers and heifers sold quite well.
Prices were generally unchanged with steers and bullocks making 175 to 186 cents per kilogram.
Older heifers also sold well but over-fat heifers were discounted.
