Market maintains its sales strength

THERE was a good start to the new year with prices remaining similar to higher in comparison to sales at the end of 2010.
Quality is still holding with plenty of feed available and as a result weights are slightly higher.
Fifty four bullocks on Wednesday averaged 180.9 cents and reached 190 cents, 22 heifers rose 10 cents to average 177.8 cents for a top of 202 cents, 32 lighter quality steers eased six cents to 175.5 cents and made to 196.6 cents and 413 vealers gained 10 cents to 207 cents, one reaching 228.2 cents for processor veal and 237.6 cents for turn out calves.
Thursday’s bull and cow market remained firm with 32 bulls repeating the previous sales average of 153.9 cents to top at 189.6 cents, and 316 cows also remained steady at 142.5 cents making a top of 165 cents. The draw for Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 January is as follows: 1, Gibbon; 2, Landmark; 3, SEJ; 4, Scotts; 5, Elders.
