NO HEAVY rain for five days and the supply of cattle at VLE Pakenham increased substantially.
The quality of the yarding was mostly good to very good with heavy steers and bullocks outnumbering vealers, and a good quality penning of yearlings were yarded.
There was more competition and most of the yarding sold at rates that were unchanged to five cents per kilogram dearer.
There were some plainer and poor quality cattle penned, most of which were sold late in the sale, but prices for these were very good for their quality.
Vealers sold very well with more buyers seeking the wide range of mostly medium to heavy vealers.
Prices were mostly between 200 cents and the top of 245.6 cents with a lot of the 500 vealers from 215 cents per kilogram and upward.
Yearling steers and heifers sold well despite some quite heavy cattle being penned.
Most of the 500 steers made from 195 cents to 220 cents, and 375 similar graded heifers 188 cents to 220 cents per kilogram.
A large percentage of the yarding were steers and bullocks that weighed between 500 kilograms and over 700 kilograms liveweight.
Prices averaged two cents per kilogram better with 300 prime C muscle bullocks making from 187 cents to 204 cents per kilogram.
Numerous pens of 300 steers mouthed 0 to 2 teeth made to 212 cents per kilogram. Heavy heifers made mostly between 165 cents and 184 cents per kilogram.
Feedlots and restockers purchased a reasonable percentage of the yarding paying to 228.6 cents per kilogram for steer vealers and 195 cents to 225 cents per kilogram for yearling steers.
They also purchased a fair range of heifers between 185 cents and 223 cents per kilogram.
