RSL opens up for visitors

PAKENHAM and Gembrook will be among 65 RSL sub-branches in Victoria inviting the public to visit its open days on Saturday 26 March.
Members of the public who visit their local RSL sub-branch will get the opportunity to see its facilities, services and meet members.
Decades of history and memorabilia will be on show as well as story telling by the veterans throughout the event.
There will be activities for all ages and entertainment and competitions as well.
Veterans will be available to guide visitors through the sub-branch and will be happy to answer any questions.
Visitors can also find out more about the rewarding RSL volunteer program which includes selling Anzac badges for the upcoming Anzac Appeal, home and hospital visits and driving and transport.
State President Major General David McLachlan AO said the open days are a perfect opportunity to showcase the facilities, services and the abundance of history on offer.
“You never know, by stepping into the sub-branch, you may be enticed to become part of that unique family and become a member or a volunteer,” he said.
“We have a range of membership options which not only focus on the defence force, but also embrace community members with a family connection to someone who served, as well as those who simply wish to enjoy the facilities become a volunteer.”
The Pakenham RSL open day will go from 10am to 2pm at 1 Snodgrass Street in Pakenham and the Gembrook RSL open day will start at 4pm and will be held at 49 Main Street in Gembrook.
