Councillors unanimously voted to refuse a permit for the facility to be built at 158-160 Princes Highway at Monday night’s town planning meeting, after fierce opposition from residents and a less than glowing officer’s report.
Cr Collin Ross described the application for the car wash and associated facilities as the most disgraceful he had ever seen.
“I do not believe something like this has come up for consideration at council,” Cr Ross said.
“There are no benefits, the only thing I can see is minuses.”
He said noise and lighting for the 24-hour, seven days a week facility would be detrimental to neighbours.
“I really struggle to believe there was any consultation with neighbours and we need to stand up for our residents and reject this application,” Cr Ross said.
His colleagues agreed.
“It’s an inappropriate location, inconsistent with surroundings and we’ve had 40 objections to it – that’s a large response,” fellow councillor Brett Owen said.
