Cutting club reports

CRICKET Club reports are being regularly cut for two reasons.
First, reports are regularly too long. They should be submitted weekly and be between 400 and 600 words, concentrating on the highlights of the weekend’s play and avoiding exhortations or coaching tips.
Second, in-house happenings, jokes, coaching and general titbits are regularly left out because, too often, they can not be understood by readers outside the club.
The Cricket Snicks column is often a good place for such interesting or quirky items and, if correspondents wish to provide such pieces, they should put them at the end of their Gazette reports and indicate that they are intended for Snicks (with a contact phone number to be followed up).
These will be assessed and published at the discretion of the editor.
The Gazette is committed to acknowledging locally based sporting achievement and the cricket pages are open to news from all clubs in the district.
