Lowe on a high

BILL Lowe was on a high as he and Trevor Marsham showed the rest of the field how it was done in the first round of the four-ball par championships at the Garfield Golf Club on Saturday.
Although the track was soggy, the scores didn’t reflect such, with Lowe (34) and Marsham (30) coming in with a much-envied plus-13.
The next best score was Greg Needham (15) and Clinton Smith (24) with a plus-11.
Nearest-the-pins were won by Imre Nagy (fourth), John Scale (eighth), Peter Lacey (ninth), S. Adkin (11th), John Coutts (14th) and Jackson Wade (16th). The second shot on the fifth was won by Don Smith and the seventh went to Grant McKay.
Down-the-lines went to Shane Male/Gary Scholes plus-10, Shane Szybkowski/R. Swift plus-9, Mark and Craig Cousin plus-8 and David and Graeme Thorp plus-8.
The Thursday competition was won by John Scale (16) with 44 points, the runner-up was Ray Johnson (12) 39. They were followed by Bill Church 39 and Trevor Burnie 38.
Nearest-the-pins were John Scale (fourth), Tony Elliot (eighth and 11th), Rob Phillips (ninth), Bill Church (14th) and Charlie Hardy (16th). The super-9 was Bill Church with 22 points.
