Membership drive to mark milestone

FOR members of the Casey-Cardinia Life Activities Club, age is just a number, except when it comes to celebrating the 15th year anniversary.
Last week, members and those from the planning committee came along to the Brentwood Park Neighbourhood House in Berwick to commemorate the anniversary.
The club may have been around for over a decade, but the members are still fighting fit, with the over 55’s proving the best way to stay young is be involved in the community.
Activities offered by the group include armchair theatre, day coach tours, dine outs, indoor carpet bowls, social afternoons and weekly dances.
Val Lucas, the club treasurer, said the Casey-Cardinia group was renowned to be a happy club.
“We invite new members to join all the time and are proud to be such a welcoming club”, she said.
The afternoon tea was a chance for members to come along and celebrate the anniversary, enjoying a casual cuppa and slice of cake.
“We hold a variety of activities every month, from picnics to card nights and morning coffees. We offer table tennis and board games too,” said Marion Wright, club secretary.
“Anyone looking to retire who might need a bit of social experience can come and join,” she said.
The Casey-Cardinia Club welcomes anyone from the area to come along and join in the fun, especially those who feel too old for the youth club but too young for the senior citizens. Val Porter is the vice president in charge of organising events, and is always looking for new ideas.
Keeping older people involved with their community socially is important, according to Marion.
“Trying to keep people our age active is very important,” Marion added.
The club will also host a spit roast on 29 July at 6.30pm in the Berwick Brentwood club rooms and welcome any new members. Anyone wanting to learn more about the club can call Val on 5941 1278, or 5941 3359.
