WOOLWORTHS Safeway in Kooweerup is expected to open in mid-October, a spokes-man for the company said.
The supermarket chain has already started its recruitment process, advertising a range of casual and entry level positions available at the east Gippsland store.
While construction of the supermarket began late last year, the wet weather has hampered efforts to complete the store earlier than October.
Woolworths community relations manager Simon Berger said while he could not commit to a date the store would open, he expected the supermarket would be open by the end of the year.
“Construction of the store is progressing well, but any delays may have something to do with the unusually wet weather,” Mr Berger said.
The complex will also be home to a new Pie Minister shop.
Owner Will Gregory is thrilled with the success of his Lakeside Pakenham store.
“We get a lot of customers from Koow-eerup, and they are all excited about the new store,” he said.
The second Pie Minister shop will open in September or October, depending on the construction of the Woolworths complex.
“It is in a great location, right at the front of the complex.
The actual store is about the same size as our Lakeside shop, but it’s long and thin which means we can use the space a lot better,” Mr Gregory explained.
There will also be seating inside and outside the pie shop, and Mr Gregory is hoping for a lot of new customers.
