TAYLAH Bott is hitting her stride as a netballer, after gaining selection for the Victorian schoolgirl netball team.
Bott, 15, from Drouin, was selected to play for Victoria in the Australian School Sports Championships, next month, after getting through the long trial process.
“I tried out with about 90 girls, then after first cut it went down to 25,” Bott said. “From there they picked me in the final 12. I’ve been training every week at either Maribyrnong or Altona to get ready.”
Out of her preferred position at centre, Bott has been playing netball since she was nine years-old and was encouraged to play by her family.
She plays for multiple netball teams to keep match-ready; the Drouin under-17s in the Gippsland Football Netball League and the Gippsland Storm under-15s, who play their season grand final against Peninsula on Thursday night.
“We’re playing our grand final on Thursday against Peninsula. I think it will be a close match, we haven’t beaten them this season yet but it should still be a good game.”
Bott has played in the Storm’s under-15s grand final team for three years in a row, showing her talent for the position far exceeds her age.
Outside of netball, Bott plays summer tennis and is in year nine at Drouin Secondary College, with her favourite subjects being art and food technology.
The championships will be held in Perth from 30 July to 5 August.
