COLUMBA Catholic Primary School celebrated its first 10 years as a school on the feast day of St Columba a few weeks ago.
Mass, which was held in the multi-purpose room, started the day and was followed by the naming of two learning blocks.
One building will be known as the MacKillop Building to honour Mary MacKillop and the other will be called the Iona Building because of the school’s relationship with the Parish of Iona-Maryknoll and its history as St Joseph’s School.
Students participated in ‘Columba Day’ activities including cooking, playing on the jumping castle and designing commemorative tiles that will become a special part of the school grounds.
School principal Jan Gubbins said much had been achieved in the school’s first 10 years and there are many plans for the future, including playgrounds, gardens and resources for the library.
“I know we will continue to work and grow together, united as a Catholic community to ensure that students now and in the future receive the best possible learning opportunities,” Ms Gubbins said.
