Knight to the rescue

CARDINIA’S A-grade captain Cameron Knight cut through Tooradin’s batting line-up with five wickets at the weekend and helped give his side a gettable run chase of 201 runs next Saturday.
With four senior players missing, Daniel Strahan and Brodie Glen made their A-grade debuts.
Cardinia lost the toss, was asked to bowl and Tooradin batted comfortably against the Bulls’ attack until Knight brought himself on.
He took 5/55 from 19 overs on the trot and bowled beautifully in tandem with Dwayne Doig who sent down 28.5 overs taking 2/72.
With regular ’keeper Luke Turner out of the side, Steve Paterson put on the gloves and grabbed three excellent catches.
Openers John Grogan and Chris Remy both took a wicket each.
John Nooy, running and diving in close proximity to the fence, took an excellent outfield catch.
Tooradin was bowled out in the 75th over for 202. Cardinia faced one over and is 0/2.

B GRADE

Playing Emerald the Bulls were asked to bowl and an excellent attack from Shane Webster (2/34) and Cameron Haynes (1/35) saw very little runs scored.
However it was gun recruit Danny Linton who tore through the Bombers’ top order, taking 3/4 off nine destructive overs. Linton was looking good for a second spell, but unfortunately injured his shoulder and was unable to return to the attack.
E-grade captain Wayne Snooks came up to lead the seconds and took 3/21 from 15 overs.
The slow scoring rate and loss of wickets hindered Emerald’s ability to accelerate and it finished the day at 9/124.

E GRADE

Playing Pakenham, the Bulls were bundled out for 78, lacking experience that has been in the side in previous weeks.
Chris Lemmon opened the batting and performed well, scoring 24. Rob Baumgartner was the only other batsman to reach double figures, making 10. Lemmon and Daniel Kitchin the opened the bowling and have Pakenham 4/36. Lemmon took 3/10 and Kitchin 1/17.

UNDER 16

Chasing Tooradin’s 145, the young Bulls were in trouble at 3/16. This proved to be a devastating blow as wickets then fell at regular intervals.
Andrew Crowther batted superbly for 33 and Daniel Glen did his best to keep the side in the contest, however he was out for a very well compiled 41.
The Bulls’ finished at 9/114 after their 40 overs.

UNDER 14

Chasing 65, the Bulls passed Lang Lang’s score with only two wickets down.
Pat Nolen retired on 30, as did captain Bradey Welsh.
An excellent 17 not out from Devlyn Tracey-Shaw and other minor contributions from Hayden Tracey-Shaw, Jeremy Monckton and Travis Kitchin helped the score past 122.

UNDER 12

Chasing Nyora’s 93 the Cardinia started well with Tom Kerr (seven retired) and Jeremy Monckton (18 retired) putting on 25 in eight overs.
Another good partnership between Tom Weinzierl and Trent Wheller saw the score move to 48 off 15 overs.
Nick Nolen and Elijah Wade also batted well before Elijah was out for six.
Travis Wheller, Matt Welsh, Doug Linford, Nat Lucas, Jason and Daniel Bonney all contributed as the game got tight.
Jeremy Monckton returned to complete 20 retired and the young Bulls needed four off the last over.
Captain Nick Nolen along with Tom Kerr had the scores level with one ball to go.
It was left to Nick to hit his first-ever boundary and help win a very good game of cricket for the young Bulls.
