GUESTS took the honours at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
It was a Stableford guest-day competition with 115 players teeing off and visitors from Churchill Park, Garfield and Warragul were among the winners.
A-grade winner with 41 points was Churchill Park member Peter Wootton (13), father of Drouin member Mark.
Stuart Broad 40 was next followed by Darryl Brain, Phil Thomson and Chris Leehane all returning with 39.
Garfield member Steve Clark (18), a guest of Danny Burke, was the winner of B grade with 40 points.
Charlie Hardy had 38, John Nelson 37 and Fred Delaney 36.
Rising junior Tom Piner (28) equalled the highest score of the day to record a win in C grade with 41.
Phil Edwards was runner-up on a countback with 39 from Rick Fenby. Greg Patterson had 38.
Nearest to pins – second: Peter Downward, fifth: Jesse Youngman, 19th: Fred Barton, 23rd (pro pin): Geoff Closter.
Balls went down to 38 and the CCR was 70.
Warragul member Bev Long (35), a guest of Lorna Hoskins, was the winner of the ladies with 39 points and Irene Morgan was next on 38.
MIDWEEK RESULTS
Wednesday’s midweek competition was well attended by 92 players.
Peter Downward enjoyed the fine conditions on his way to winning A grade with 41 points.
Runner-up was Barry Cunningham on 37.
B-grade winner was Neil Williams with 40 points from the consistent Fred Delaney 38.
Regular Wednesday player Max Johnson was a popular winner of C grade with 40 points.
Runner-up was Brian Kemp on 37.
Nearest to pins – second: Peter Downward, fifth: Ian Archer, 23rd (pro pin): Danny LaFrantz.
Balls went to 36 on a countback and the CCR was 70.
NINE-HOLE COMPETITION
More than 60 teed up on Thursday for the seniors’ event.
Bill Todd, Peter Browne, Rex Bastin and Bill Horrocks all tied on 21 points in the men’s section.
Irene Morgan and Betty Johnson shared first place in the ladies division with 21 points apiece. Shirley Todd and Joyce Hadfield both returned with 20.
THURSDSAY RESULTS
There was added interest on Thursday with the ladies challenging the men to a competition that included several interesting conditions.
The men won by a shot and a few are asking if the rules will change for next year’s challenge.
MONDAY RESULTS
Last Monday’s competition was tied between Kelvin James and Peter Browne with a score of 20.
Harry Pollard, Betsy White, Ross Lang and Max Johnson all had 19.
BLIND GOLFERS INSPIRE
On Sunday the Victorian Blind Golfers Association visited the club and joined some of our members for a round of 18 holes.
It was a great day and some of the golf displayed was truly inspiring.
The club hopes to keep this event on the calendar for many years to come.
LADIES RESULTS
Last Tuesday, the Drouin women golfers played a stroke event with 16 to qualify for match play championship, sponsored by Laurie and Virginia Pyle. The CCR was 72.
A-grade winner was Shirley Todd with 69 nett. The runner-up was Lorna Hoskins with 79 nett.
B-grade winner was Nerida Hammond with 70 nett and runner-up was Pam Pratt with 74 nett on a countback to Sylvia Martin.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Di Sullivan and on the 19th was Fay Bastin. The pro-pin was won by Mary Tymensen.
Down-the-line balls went to Jenni Harris and Margaret Purcell with 71 nett and Irene Morgan, Robyn O’Brien and Jill Brenchley all on 72 nett.
Jenni Harris was won the Crow’s Nest, sponsored by Di Sullivan being 60 centimetres from the hole on the 23rd.
There were five broken handicaps – Margaret Purcell to 15, Shirley Todd to 15.4, Lorna Hoskins to 15.9, Jenni Harris to 22.9 and Nerida Hammond to 29.

SENIORS COMPETITION
The Thursday nine-hole competition was won by Irene Morgan and Betty Johnson with 21 points each.
Runners-up were Joyce Hadfield and Shirley Todd on 20 points each and Mildred Lyon and Audrey Smethurst both with 19 points.
THURSDAY COMPETITION
This was a challenge between the senior men and senior women and the winners were the men, leaving the women to do the washing up after the end-of-month barbecue that is proving very popular.
