EARLY birds are flouting speed limits to get a head start at work.
Pakenham Senior Sergeant Steve Matthews said police were concerned about the number of motorists travelling at high speeds along the Princes Highway in the early hours of the morning.
Sen Sgt Matthews said many commuters were trying to take advantage of relatively light traffic on the highway and speeding into Melbourne before hitting peak travel times.
Police would be keeping a close and early eye on the highway, Sen Sgt Matthews said.
Teams from the Pakenhambased traffic management unit would patrol popular speed zones to ensure motorists did the right thing, he said.
