THE Garfield Golf Club played its last Monthly Medal Stroke round for the year on Saturday in great playing conditions, which was reflected by the scores that came rolling in.
Robert Calderara (16) was the winner of A Grade and the medal with a personal best of 80 off the stick, coming in with a nett 64. He won the medal from the unlucky John Blair (19) who also had a 64 nett but lost on a count back. Peter Morgan (27) took out C Grade with a nett 65.
Best scratch scores for the day were handed in by Shane Male with a 72 in A Grade, Glen Wells and Robert Gough with 82 in B Grade and Craig Hunter with an 89 in C Grade.
Balls down the line went to R.Gough and D.Raines 65, S.Szybowski, J.Grant, G.Wells, C.Smith and G.Vandenessen 66. S.Male, R.Norton and G.Scholes also scored a ball with 67 nett.
Nearest the pins went to G.McLure (fourth), S.Male (eighth), C.Hobson (ninth), D.Lawler (11th), R.Keay (14th) and M.Hirt on the 16th. Best second shots went to G.Vitiritti on the fifth hole and M.Kelly on the seventh while Amanda McLure (23) continued her good recent form with a nett 72 to win the ladies event.

It was the second round of the Summer Cup and the winner on the day was Olga Pearson who played great golf to score 42 points. Vikki Templeton was runner-up with 39 points. Maree Rogers won round one of the Summer Cup the week before with 36 points.

Ian Hopper (17) coped best in the wet conditions scoring 39 points to win by one from runner-up Mark Kelly (18) on 38. Down the line balls went to R.Johnson 37, N.Needham, D.Kerr, P.Lacey and Charles Barnes on 36 points.
Nearest the pins went to C.Barnes (fourth), C.Hardy (eighth), W.Church (ninth), R.Johnson (11th), M.Matthews (14th) and C.Hardy once again on the 16th. The secret nine was shared by I.Hopper and N.Needham.

The winner of the Thursday twilight competition was J.Nibbs with 24 points from J.Blair and P.Lubberink on 20 points. Duane (greenkeeper) Peacock won the lucky draw.

Glen Treverton (22) continued his great form of recent times by winning with 44 points and knocking nine shots off his handicap in the process. Shane Male (4) was a long way back in second place on 34 points.
