A STAR-STUDDED field is set to race in the $40,000 to-the-winner Group Two Lion Quality Products Warragul Cup on Wednesday night after six terrific heats were run on Friday night.
Warragul has staged some of the all-time classic country cup finals and this looks to be no exception with some of Australia’s most promising up and coming greyhounds progressing to the final along with some of the countries most proven performers over the last 12 months.
By far the most impressive heat winner on Friday was the Jamie Ennis trained Adulterous. Owned by leading stud master Paul Westerveld, this rising star by Meticulous gave none of his rivals a chance after running a scintillating time of 25.55 second just .04 off the track record which is currently held by the great El Grand Senor. Adulterous made it four wins from as many starts at the track and looks a big chance from box three in the final.
Another who impressed in the heats was Cranbourne Cup finalist Dyna Steal who was superb with a gritty come from behind victory defeating the promising King Benny. Having drawn box one in the final, the consistent greyhound will be one to watch come Wednesday.
Possibly the biggest shock on the night was the victory by Mepunga Geordie in heat five for Jeff Britton. Mepunga Geordie wasn’t fancied in betting, starting as one of the rank outsiders. The calibre of greyhound he beat was simply outstanding with the likes of Aston Elle, Radley Bale and 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Tron all upstaged by the youngster.
The locally trained Soda Boy, trained by Peter Giles, also had a terrific win in his heat. This striking fawn dog, who was a recent finalist in the Group One Silver Chief, was outstanding but will have his work cut out for him after drawing box five in the final.
All eyes will be on Warragul at 9.18pm Wednesday night to watch this intriguing Group Two Final.
Gates open on course at 6.00pm
