THE Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club has embarked on an exciting new challenge by running a Youth Girls Team in the South East Juniors competition in 2012.
The SEJ Youth Girls Competition caters for females aged between 13 and 17 who wish to participate in Australian Football. The competition is scheduled on a Saturday morning at a central venue at Casey Fields. The competition provides a structured female player pathway which includes opportunities in representative football and AFL Victoria Academy and State team representation
Officer Kangaroos’ JFC Treasurer Tania Taylor said the club was rapt with the initial response.
“Everyone at the club is very excited about the upcoming season with the Girls team,” Taylor said.
“We had 22 names on the initial list and with registration day coming up we’ll definitely have a team.
“We had a lot of inquiries throughout last year’s season so we asked all interested girls to place their name on a list and were very surprised at the end of the day when we had 22 names on the list.”
The club held an information night before Christmas and had a great response from girls and parents who are keen to get started in 2012.
A mum at the club Leeanne Hayes has put her hand up to coach the girls but is looking for someone with coaching experience to help her out. Anyone interested in joining the youth girls team or any team from under-9s through 16s should be at the club registration day on Sunday 12 February between 10am and 12 noon.
For further information please call club president Gavin Rogers on 0418515591 or Tania Taylor on 0439 632 909.
The Officer Kangaroos is a family club and prides itself on the way its kids and families conduct themselves on and off the field. The club was recognised for this attitude by winning the Best Overall Club Award in 2009 and again in 2011.
