Fuel thefts stay low

PETROL driveoffs have not been a big problem in Pakenham, despite escalating fuel prices.
Police Senior Sergeant Steve Matthews said the concept of prepaid fuel in local service stations overnight had helped combat what was a major issue only 12 months ago.
With petrol prices recently approaching $1.20 a litre, there have been strong concerns in other areas about people filling up their cars with fuel and then driving off without paying.
Sen Sgt Matthews said Pakenham had so far been relatively incident free and hoped that trend would continue.
He said most local stations had installed security systems to help combat the problem.
