THE Cardinia Beaconhills golf course was in great condition on Saturday for the first round of the 2012 Club Championships. Ground staff and volunteers have done a terrific job getting the course ready for the member’s biggest time of the year.
Peter Langdon (7) had a great round winning A grade with a nett 66 as did Wayne Johnson (14) who won B Grade. Neil Vine (20) was the C Grade and Monthly Medal winner after returning a nett score of 64.
Ryan Fuller is currently leading the competition; playing off scratch he had the best gross score of the day with 72, with Wayne Johnson leading B Grade and Neil Vine, C Grade. Mick Leddin won the play off for the January monthly medal after a three-way tie last month with a 72 nett. The ladies also commenced their Championships on Sunday with Laura Griffin (4) leading the field with a brilliant 74 gross. Good scores also came from Robin Lafferty (31) and Kim Pitcher (31) both having gross scores of 93 for nett scores of 62. Lafferty won the daily competition on a count-back.
Sunday’s Beaconhills Cup Par competition was won by John Nowak (17) with a score of +5 from runner-up Daniel Fernandez (17) on +2.

Sixty players competed in Tuesday’s Stableford competition with Andrew Barcham (7) winning A Grade with 41 points and Terry Lovell (19) taking home the choccies in B Grade with 42 points.
The Ladies Opening Day Stableford competition was played on Wednesday with Lesley Paterson (41) having the best score for the day and winning the competition with 40 points while Ruth Barker (45) was the winner of the 9-hole Stableford competition with 10 points.
Kim Pitcher won the Betty Forster Memorial Salver, which has been played on Wednesdays over summer, with a nett score of 195 ½ to win from runner-up Mary Padman on 200 nett.
Michael Lancaster had the best net score at Wednesday Twilight comp with 28½, Warren Sutton had the best gross with 34 while Michael Jackson had the least putts with 11 and Jacob Drummond won the $74 pro pin.
Thursday’s Stableford saw a field of 87 players take part with Andrew Conn (4) winning A Grade with a 67 nett on a count back while Les Johns (19) won B Grade with 64 nett.
