FORMER Junior Quarter Midget racer Will Carroll stunned the crowd at Nyora Raceway on Saturday with a scintillating display of speed and precision to dominate in his Formula 500 category.
In a night of spectacular results, Shannon Meakins also broke through for his first Nyora feature win in the hot rods, and Dan ‘Dominator’ Dubois continued a winning streak that dates back to the middle of last season. Owen Milton also took out the Mini Sprint feature.
A small, high-class field of Formula 500 competitors proved the sport is in good hands as a large number of emerging young guns have made it tough to pick a winner on any given night.
Carroll set the tone from the get-go when he led current Aussie champion Liam Williams for the majority of the opening heat before finishing a close second.
Mitch Whiting continued the young theme in winning heat two from Carroll and Adam Turner.
Carroll scored the win in the main event from Whiting and Matt Turner, who had to battle Grant Stansfield across the line after accidentally knocking off his ignition switch and losing ground.
Dubois again proved the Australian Wingless Sprints were his domain, taking a comfortable feature win from Adam Greenwood and Dan Robson. Greenwood and Robson took out the heats.
The hot rods race was a loud celebration of the historic class with Meakins getting his first Nyora feature win ahead of Jason May and Kali Hovey.
Phil Jenkins led for a large part of the race before a loose moment cost him a lot of ground. May and Eddie Ivermee shared the heat wins.
Owen Milton stopped Matt Parson’s run of feature race wins dead in its tracks with a faultless display, snatching victory from Parson and Wayne Herford. Kevin Bomford and Milton each scored heat wins.
Modified Production Sedans (MPS) had a short hit-out ahead of next meeting’s series championship round, with Wayne Ramsdale and Darren Pottage scoring the two heat wins.
Time constraints meant no feature was run.
Michael Van Ginneken was the star of the go-karters with his smooth and fast style on the way to the Outlaw class win and runner up in the Standard Clubman’s behind Zoe Telindert. Telindert also won the Modified Clubman as Ebony Hobson won the Ladies main event. Brodie Phillips won Junior A by a nose cone from Todd Hobson and Donald Young.
