MERINDA Park’s A-grade bats could only amass 155 runs against ladder leaders Beaconsfield on Saturday.
Playing at Donnelly Reserve, the Cobras captain Gary Davidson won the toss and decided to bat.
Losing the early wicket of Lester Betreen, the Cobras then consolidated with a 72-run second-wicket partnership between Chris Shepherdson and Brett Whittingham.
The Cobras then lost 3/0 to be 4/77 and in trouble.
Only Chris Shepherdson with 32, Gary Davidson with 32 and Brett Whittingham, top scoring with 42, were the only top-order batsmen to make double figures.
It was a good innings from lower-order batsman and Darren Morrow with 25 helped get the score to a respectable total.
In the field, the Cobras picked up a vital break-through when Darren Morrow had Ray Cook caught behind by Rod Morrison to leave the visitors on 1/4 at stumps.
B GRADE
The Cobras will need a big score this week after Kooweerup scored 8/279.
Andrew Martin was the pick of the bowlers with 3/52. Captain Martin Donaldson picked up 2/18 and leg-spin bowler Scott Edwards picked up 2/33.
Dustin Peebles again bowled without luck to have 0/56 from 18 overs. Opening batsman Anthony Shepherdson picked up 1/38.
C GRADE
Sent in against Nar Nar Goon, the Cobras lost a wicket in the first over, however from then on got on top of the Nar Nar Goon attack.
Only Brendan McGrath troubled the Cobras to take 8/69 from 27 overs. Russell Dunn continued his fine form with 76.
Opening bowler Nic Reed keeps improving with the bat to score 32 and Mark Shaw help the Cobras get to 10/188 with a well-made 30.
D GRADE
Playing Kooweerup, the Cobras bowled the visitors out for 169 thanks to 4 for 43 from 19 overs by Gordon Lewis and 4 for 81 from 16 overs by Peter Shore. Sam Beaver picked up 1 for 16 from 4.5 overs. Now needing 170 for victory, the Cobras lost two wickets before stumps with Darren Smith contributing 24, Captain Tony Clarke 10 not out and Peter Shore 6 not out. At the end of play the Cobras were 2 for 55.
E GRADE – RED
The Cobras will need to bat well after having Cardinia 9/118, the hosts put on 83 for the final wicket to finish with 201.
Tim Inglis was the pick of the bowlers with 3/45 from 22 overs. Junior player, Anthony Burr picked up 2 for 28 from 14 overs with opening bowler Robert Strang picking up 2 for 11 from 7 overs.
E GRADE – WHITE
Playing Devon Meadows, the Cobras did well to bowl the visitors out for 165 with junior Michael Theodoridis taking 3/24 from 13 overs.
Stan Pongracic, playing against his old side, took 2/36 with Stuart Martin taking the final wicket in his first over to have 1/0.
Batting the Cobras are off to a shaky start to be 2/22 at stumps.
Stan Pongracic was out for 10 and Trevor Martin. Four, with Jason Pongracic three not out.
F GRADE
Playing their round 6 match against Pakenham Upper that was postponed due to poor pitch conditions, the Cobras had the host 6/131 from 35 overs.
Dave Field picked up 1/5, Phil Keirnan, 1/20, Grant Bloomer 1/22, Marcus Beaver 1/25 and Jace Field with 1/32.
Batting the Cobras had a good victory, making 6/150 from 35 overs.
Top score was 37 from Grant Bloomer. Dave Field continued his fine form with the bat to score 34 with Matt Cuthbertson 26.
UNDER 16
Chasing 80 against Kilcunda-Bass, the Cobras had a comfortable win with captain Dustin Peebles scoring 50 retired on his 16 birthday.
Nathan Beaver also had a good day with the bat scoring 37 not out and opener Andrew Martin scoring 24.
UNDER 14
The Red team had an outright win over the White team with the Red making 2/144 chasing 49.
The White team was all out for 57 in it’s second innings with Brad Twyford scoring 21, Andrew Hook 5 and Jazeel Ajireen 4.
Pick of the bowlers was Matthew Pongracic with 3/14 from five overs, Jason Pongracic with 2/4 from three overs, Anthony Burr with 1/4 from two overs and Shaun Tidball with 1/4 from two overs.
UNDER 12
Playing Devon Meadows White in a one-day game, the Cobra Red team was 4/50 from its allocated overs.
Dylan Cuthbertson top scored with 10 retired. Joshua Prudden 6 retired and Chase Allan 4 retired.
Bowling, the Cobras had Devon Meadows White on 6/72 at stumps.
Joshua Prudden was the pick of the bowlers with 1/4 from one over, Reed Allan with 1/7 from 2 overs and Blake Glassborow with 1/8 from two overs.
