Olympic progress

BERWICK gymnast Ashleigh Brennan will wear the Aussie green and gold with pride in London after winning a place on to her second Olympic team.
The 21-year-old is no stranger to the spotlight of the world stage. She will embark on her second Olympic Games campaign with six years of international competition already to her name, as well as Commonwealth Games gold medals in both Melbourne and Delhi.
And Brennan is fresh off claiming her first senior all-around Australian championship, which saw her selected for London 2012.
She will compete alongside Australian world champion Lauren Mitchell in what could be her Olympic swansong.
Brennan’s extensive competition resume includes three World Championships, in addition to her 2008 Beijing Olympics appearance.
She competed on home soil last month in a dual-meet with a visiting Japanese team, and coach Tracey Penaluna said it was a good opportunity for her young charge to measure herself against athletes from a country of a similar competitive level, prior to the Olympics.
Keep and eye on the Gazette for more on Brennan’s Olympic progress.
