A HEATED tussle at Cardinia Reserve was the biggest match-up all day as Pakenham thumped Old Trinity Grammarians 7-2.
The Cougars went to town pasting the last placed Grammarians, with their speed and passing accuracy troubling the visitors.
Pakenham pushed hard for an opener with several advances being kicked out of bounds before in the fifth minute, the Grammarians kicked forward and caught the Pakenham defence off guard, slotting home their first goal to take the lead.
This wouldn’t last long as Pakenham struck back within three minutes to level the match via a Grammarians own goal.
Pakenham fired two more goals off to walk back to the rooms with a 3-1 lead at the half.
Edward Codd was pivotal for the Cougars in the first half, kicking two goals and taking the match out of Old Trinity’s grasp.
Pakenham kept the pace up in the second half as Old Trinity started playing a more physical brand of soccer to hamper the Cougars’ progress.
Three quick goals for the Cougars set straight any notion of physicality from the visitors, with Sebastian Moreno leading from the front with a goal of his own and setting up two more to finish with best on ground honours.
Old Trinity Grammarians scored a second consolation goal late in the match, before conceding a second own-goal to give Pakenham the five-goal win.
Pakenham travels to Rowville Eagles on Sunday afternoon, with kick off at 2pm at Park Ridge Reserve.
