CARDINIA senior sides batted well at the weekend as well as bowling economically to Nar Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll in A grade.
A GRADE
Playing Nar Nar Goon, the Cardinia captain Cameron Knight was asked to bowl on a wonderful day at Cardinia.
John Grogan and Chris Remy bowled tightly at the start of the innings and Grogan snared the first wicket at 20.
Dwayne Doig was introduced for another mammoth spell, 27 overs, in which he took 5/87, his second five-wicket haul for the season.
Ben DaRose took a wicket, as did brother Troy, thanks to a sharp piece of work from Luke Turner down the leg side. Turner finished with two stumpings for the innings, the other coming off Doig.
Part-timer John Nooy then took two wickets to close Nar Nar Goon’s innings at 232.
B GRADE
Playing at Nyora, the seconds did well to make 8/205 against last season’s C-grade premier. Brad Remy (70) and Stuart Williams (67) put on 99 for the first wicket before the former was caught attempting another huge hit after a previous six lost the ball. Adam Hobson contributed 18 before being caught behind. Williams brought up his half-century in the 58th over. This was a defining moment for Williams, his first half-century in B grade and hopefully the first of many.
Dylan Mitchell and debutante Daniel Kitchin were undefeated on nine and seven respectively. This was Cardinia’s highest score for the season, against highly rated opposition.
E GRADE
Playing Merinda Park at Rythdale, the Bulls were sent in and batted their 70 overs for 9/201. Ben Monckton held the innings together with a magnificent 80 not out, his maiden half-century, batting at number eight. Plenty of running was done as he only hit four boundaries in. Matt Ryan made 35 and Ryan Webster (10) batted well after returning from knee surgery only two weeks ago. Under-14 captain Bradey Welsh made an excellent 30 not out.
UNDER 14
Chasing Tooradin’s 126, the young Bulls got close but were all out for 91. Bradey Welsh made 28 and brother Travis a solid 14. Brad Tanner contributed 15. Devlyn Tracey-Shaw made seven and Jeremy Monckton five, while Dean Gillot made his first run.
CLUB NOTES
All are invited to the Christmas breakup at the rooms after this week’s matches. Santa is expected to drop in at 7.45 to visit the children.
