CFA celebrates its long-servers

THREE members of the Upper Beaconsfield Fire Brigade were presented with Australian Fire Service Medal Clasps at the brigade’s 80th birthday celebration on 27 November.
About 80 people, comprising past and present members with their families, watched CFA board member Robyn Hale present the medals.
A 50 years medal went to Stan Hamilton, now a resident of Pakenham. He joined the CFA officially in 1957 but brigade records show he was a valuable contributor for many years prior to that.
Stan’s contributions include building up and maintaining fire trucks and fundraising as well as fire fighting.
He has also been Santa for the brigade Christmas party.
Eric Bumpstead also received a 50 years medal. He joined in 1957 and served as captain for 24 years, including during Ash Wednesday.
Eric has contributed to the education of fire fighters in wildlife behaviour and suppression.
Brigades from near and far have visited Upper Beaconsfield to learn the lessons of Ash Wednesday from Eric.
A 25 years medal went to Nancy Boura, who joined the brigade in 1978 and has served as communications officer since 1980.
The backbone of the fire station’s housekeeping, she has updated the Upper Beaconsfield map books and contributed to community education visiting schools and kinder.
Three members of the Upper Beaconsfield Fire Brigade Auxiliary also received long service medals, Beryl Hamilton and Dot Pockett for 30 years service and Joan Green for 20 years service.
