Quality vealers boost Baw Baw market

THE Baw Baw Livestock Exchange Wednesday fat cattle market saw 1009 cattle, and Thursday’s cow and bull sale saw 344 cows and 21 bulls.
Heavy steers sold well on Wednesday, selling to 208.6 cents, quoted 5 to 8 cents dearer, while heifers reached 200 cents.
Firm on last Wednesday, good quality vealers were in demand again with a top price of 238.6 cents, up 12 cents on last week, although a larger yarding of lighter quality vealers bought the average back at 182.5.
Restockers were kept busy with a good yarding of viable stock while processors were keen to purchase stock for the Christmas break, keeping demand strong.
On Thursday 21 bulls eased slightly to make to 161.2 for an average of 135.2, cows on the other hand rose marginally to reach a top of 140 cents, and an average of 115.8.
The yard average remained steady to firm with open auction cows reaching $800.
