STAFF and students at Upper Beaconsfield Primary School recently bid farewell to longserving principal Gordon Atkin, a leader whose motto was always ‘schools are for kids’.
Mr Atkin’s relationship with the school spanned 16 years, including 11 as principal.
He spent four years as a teacher in 1973 and then returned later to lead the school.
Acting principal Kathy Sharp said Mr Atkin was well respected for his leadership and had a great influence on the school. “He always takes the time to listen and talk to the children about their lives and interests,” she said.
“Building respect and relationships takes time, which Gordon always had, for everyone in the school community.”
