Students peddle some victory

BERWICK Secondary College principal David Green has commended his students for their extraordinary success in human powered vehicle racing.
Mr Green said the continued success shown by the school’s HPV teams at Murray Bridge was a testament to the power of the community.
He said there were few better examples of students, parents, teachers and the wider business community working together to achieve a common goal.
“Everyone has won through their involvement and the students themselves provide powerful role models for others at the college.”
Berwick’s senior team Firestorm competed against 180 schools and 23 adult teams to finish third overall.
Firestorm travelled 847 kilometres during the race at an average speed of more than 35 kilometres an hour including pit stops.
Berwick Secondary College has won the same event for four consecutive years and won its last seven events.
Year 11 student Joel Duggan, one of the winning team members, has ridden in the last seven victories.
The team also won $500 from Adelaide Hills Council.
Team members were Dean Berry, Joel Duggan, Daniel Mills, Rhett Mills, Dan Noy, Richard Paton, Adam Wickson, and Duncan Wood.
Other school vehicles in competition at Murray Bridge were Firepower, placed 19th on the road, and fourth in the junior secondary class.
The team rode 360 laps.
Firebird was 30th on the road, and 13th in the senior secondary class, riding 331 laps.
