Best wishes and thanks

PLEASE accept my very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
I wish to thank those who have responded to My view, one way or the other during 2005.
Our policy is to not become engaged in a twoway debate on issues, but I particularly welcome comment and letters to the editor in response to My view.
Everyone has the right to express a point of view through the press and it is important that everyone takes advantage of that right if the need arises.
This is provided the comment is within the law.
I consider it a great privilege to be given the column to write and believe considerable responsibility goes with that privilege.
A column opens the door for writers to delve into areas that cannot be broached under the rules of general reporting that ‘should’ restrict journalists from allowing personal views into articles.
My view allows me to elicit latent issues that would sometimes stay hidden and I believe this to be important.
On the other hand there is opportunity to note good works by people, which, of course, is mostly what goes on in society.
