Chamber aware of redevelopment

BERWICK Village Chamber of Commerce has launched a campaign to make businesspeople aware of options to redevelop the Enterprise Avenue and wider precinct.
The chamber called businesspeople, particularly those in the Enterprise Avenue precinct, to an information forum today (Wednesday).
Chamber president Michael Hall said the forum at 79 Intrepid Street, Berwick, was to advise businesspeople of several issues critical to the future strategy of and commercial viability of the precinct. Mr Hall said the City of Casey, the State Government and Monash University had established a working group to examine options for future development of the precinct.
Mr Hall represents business on the group.
He said the options included grade separation of Clyde Road and the railway line.
“I am keen to ensure that the strategic direction of the precinct is established with the best interests of business in mind,” he said. “It is important for the chamber to be kept fully informed of the critical issues and concerns affecting business in the area.
“It is equally important that businesspeople are kept up to date with developments that will ultimately affect the future sustainability of their business.”
The precinct has long been under threat from a worsening traffic gridlock at the Enterprise AvenueClyde Road intersection, and concern deepened on Monday after another crash at the intersection.
Further concern has been expressed because of plans by Monash University to develop a major commercial and residential estate on the Berwick campus land.
The plans include traffic access to the development from Enterprise Avenue.
