Police probe loan

THE hunt for answers into the murder of Pakenham man Michael Griffey has intensified, with police calling for a person believed to have loaned Mr Griffey a large amount of money to come forward.
It is believed that Mr Griffey may have borrowed a large sum of money from an unknown person during the afternoon of Thursday 29 December, when last seen alive by family members.
His wife Diane last week told the Gazette that he looked in a hurry and was off to attend some “business details.”
A black overnight bag containing a change of clothes, toiletries, a brown coloured men’s leather wallet containing cash, personal papers, credit cards and a motorola RAZR V3 mobile phone are all missing.
Mr Griffey’s body was discovered in the garage of the family’s Ahern Road home by Diane late on Monday January 2.
It is believed that the body may have been there for up to four days.
Police revealed that a post mortem examination established that Mr Griffey was assaulted and died of injuries inflicted by an unknown instrument.
The Griffey family last week told the Gazette they were still trying to come to terms with their loss.
They encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
“The scars are there, especially for the kids, and unless we get closure we can’t move on. At the moment we don’t know the who, the how and the why and that’s very hard,” Ms Griffey said.
“We would encourage anyone with information to assist the police with their investigation.”
