THE weather wasn’t the only thing hot at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
In a day of excellent scoring, Wayne Duckett and Chris Hogan took out the fourballbestball par event with a remarkable plus15.
It was also the second qualifying round of the Summer Cup with 58 pairs in the field.
With a plus10 last week Wayne and Chris were also the numberone qualifiers for the Summer Cup matchplay competition with a twoweek total of plus25.
Glenn Flowers and Richie Christian were unlucky runnersup on Saturday with an excellent plus14. Following on from pluseight last week they qualified in second position.
Better scores on Saturday came from Bill Todd and Kevin O’Brien, plus13, Paul McAlinden and Trevor Jones, plus12, Darryl Bryce and John Piner, plus11, Alan Bright and Greg Smyth, plus11, Peter Medwin and Rex Amey plus11.
Nearest to pins – second: Paul McAlinden, fifth (pro pin): Paul Matthews, 19th: Wayne Duckett, 23rd: Goran Danilov.
Balls went down to plus10 on a countback.
Stuart Williams had an eagle two on the fourth hole and Paul Matthews an eagle three on the 25th.
Plus18 on a countback was required to make the top eight and qualify for the Summer Cup knockout.
Other qualifying positions were – three: Kevin O’Brien and Bill Todd plus21, four: Bill Pyle and Colin Moss plus21, five: Peter Medwin and Rex Amey plus20, six: Greg Patterson and Jim McCormack plus20, seven: Arnold Mills and Paul Matthews plus19, eight: Paul McAlinden and Trevor Jones plus18.
The draw for matches is up in the clubhouse with the dates matches should be played by.
MIDWEEK COMPETITION
There were 108 players for the midweek Wednesday competition and Shane Dwyer (5) with 40 points was a narrow winner of A grade from Jayden Doyle 39, Simon Appleby 39 and Alan Logan 39.
Cleo Sahhar (15) won B grade with 39 points from Lindsay Robinson 37 and Tom Flowers 36.
Brian Curtis (28) won C grade with 39 points from Lester Smethurst 37, Alan Fielden 36 and Ron Finlayson 36.
Nearest to pins – second: Tom Flowers, fifth (pro pin): Matt Long.
Balls went down to 35 on a countback and the CCR was 72.
NINEHOLE COMPETITIONS
Peter Andreason had a win in the Thursday seniors’ event with 18 points from Bruce Caughey and Geoff Thomas both on 17.
Kay Grieve won the ladies with 21 points from Irene Morgan 20.
Con Norris with 22 points won the Monday competition from Tom Flowers and George Nicholson both on 21.
JUNIOR PENNANT
A blistering day greeted the team at Pakenham on Sunday for the first round of junior pennant.
Although beaten by more experienced opponents, Trafalgar, the team was far from disgraced.
Special mention to Jesse Youngman who flew in from Perth the night before and still took his place in the team.
The next match is at Trafalgar this Sunday.
