Nar Nar Goon couple Len and Mary Bramley celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on 18 January.By Paul Dunlop
DIAMONDS are forever, and Len and Mary Bramley are doing a good job of making their love last just as long.
The Nar Nar Goon couple has just celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Len and Mary met while working at the Korumburra cheese factory.
They also attended the same church.
The pair’s friendship turned to romance, they became engaged and then were wed on 18 January, 1941.
The couple has four sons – Peter, John, Ed and Geoff, and moved to Nar Nar Goon about 15 years ago.
Mary said she and her husband saw their children, 11 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren as often as they could.
“Peter lives in Finley, John lives in Yarra Junction, Ed is in Narre Warren North and Geoff is across our driveway,” she said.
After Len’s retirement, the pair travelled to Europe and the United Kingdom as well as India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Mary did an accountancy course at night school and worked from home for 30 years before she retired in 2000.
The Bramleys will celebrate their anniversary with family and friends this Sunday.
A special morning tea will be held after the Pakenham Uniting Church service and then the celebrations will continue at Len and Mary’s home.
Mary said her sisters Alma and Grace would be part of the gettogether.
She said her marriage to Len had been a happy one.
Mary said the couple had a quiet celebration on their anniversary and were looking forward to Sunday’s gathering.
Dinner on the date of their wedding was at home, but it was still special, she said.
“Geoff cooked tea. it was absolutely beautiful, a lovely roast,” she said.
