Goon fights back with spirit

NAR Nar Goon-Maryknoll battled hard against Emerald in A grade in order to avoid the threat of relegation.

A GRADE

Nar Nar Goon won the toss and elected to bat.
Lownds and Simpson got Nar Nar Goon to 24 before Simpson was out for 10 and Lownds followed shortly after for 16.
At 4/42 things were not looking good, but Wade Crawford and Neil Rankin built a steady partnership of 46 before Rankin (27) went just before tea and the Goon was 5/87.
Crawford and Payroli (13) took the score to 113, Cooper made 11 and Govaars 19, the Goon totalling 172 after 59 overs.
With 17 overs to bowl the Goon had a good start, having Emerald 3/14 after six overs, but the Bombers finished the day 3/61.

C GRADE

Nar Nar Goon won the toss and elected to field.
After a steady start by the Upper Beaconsfield openers the Goon dismissed the Maroons for 105.
Best of the bowlers were Scott Musgrove and Chris King, each taking four wickets.
With 26 overs to play the Goon finished 2/79 with Al Downes 38 not out and King nine not out.

D GRADE

After losing the toss the Marygoons were asked to bowl by Beaconsfield.
Colin Hodson and Duane Lucas started proceedings for the Marygoons and had Beaconsfield 3/28 after 13 overs.
Sean Somers bowled a good spell, picking up 2/28 from 16 overs, only his no-ball count letting down his efforts.
Beaconsfield was battling at 7/80 just after the tea break. Jason Campbell (3/52) bowled well but had several catches go to ground in his 19 overs.
Brian Walsh was just as unlucky and would have finished off the Beaconsfield innings but for two dropped catches in his last over.
After 70 overs Beaconsfield reached 9/181.

UNDER 16

The Goon played Emerald Red at Emerald, won the toss and opened with Austin Van Strijp and Evan Bramley (16), who put on 62. Van Strijp, who was batting brilliantly, retired on 50 and at drinks the Reds were 3/88.
The Goon was travelling well and Van Strijp came in again. Travis Simpkin made a good eight, Jarrad Hendrix batted well and hung around for seven overs while Van Strijp was still belting the bowling. At the end of the 40 overs, he finished 95 not out.

UNDER 14

The Marygoons were playing Pakenham, lost the toss and were asked to bowl.
They bowled very well everyone of them but the one that stood out was first change bowler and wicketkeeper Nick Smith, who ended up with 3/4 off five overs.
Thomas Cunningham also bowled well, getting 2/4 with great catches and good fielding had Pakenham all out for 95.

UNDER 12

Nar Nar Goon White, with good fielding and bowling, kept the Beaconsfield Saints to 116.
