John’s eight-iron magic

A HIGHLIGHT of the first round of Beaconhills Country Golf Club’s championships on Saturday was a spectacular hole-in-one by John Ackaoui.
His top shot came on the 141-metre par-three 15th on the Old course, helping him to a score of 72.
John used an eight iron for his shot that reportedly took one bounce before dropping into the cup.
Although his round finished at 12.30pm, he was still celebrating his first ace in the clubrooms at 6.30pm.
However Brian Meneilly overtook him as clubhouse leader with 71 off the stick which gave him a nett 62 and when Stephen Murray returned a score of 69, two under the card, he became the leader of the club championships after week one.

MONTHLY MEDAL

Brian Meneilly’s nett 62 won him the monthly medal on the Old course and Eric Booth was the winner on a countback in B grade with nett 67, while Ian Treadwell was the C-grade winner with nett 64.
Bianca Ling was the junior nett winner with a score of 27 nett.
On the Lakes course there was a tie for the monthly medal between Scott Chapman, who won A grade, and Colin Dell who won B grade – both scoring a nett 66.
Colin and Scott will play off next month to decide the winner.
The play-off for the January medal was contested on Saturday and Andrew Sheehan returned a nett 74 to win the medal by four strokes from Anthony Clark.

SUNDAY RESULTS

This was also a stroke event on the Lakes course.
The A-grade winner was Neil Andrews with nett 64 and Tony McNamee was the B-grade winner with nett 61.
