Prices good for quality

FOR the week ending Monday, 6 February, total yarding at the Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) Pakenham was 2972 head.
This number consisted of 1384 head on Monday, 883 last Tuesday and 705 at Thursday’s store sale.
Similar numbers did not deter competition at Pakenham, where stronger demand for vealers and other trade cattle saw price increases of between two cents and seven cents per kilogram.
While the top price may have been only two cents higher, there was a bigger percentage of the yarding that made between 185 cents and 219 cents per kilogram.
There was not the quality seen for the cattle purchased to feed-on, which did limit prices compared to the previous week, but prices were very good for the quality received.
Grown steer and heifer prices generally followed the prices of the previous week, which saw steers make from 165 cents to 181 cents, and heifers 135 cents to 165 cents per kilogram.
