NEPEAN League competition was highlighted by a onepoint win to Crib Point over a gallant Rosebud on the weekend.
The Magpies were expected to account for Rosebud with some ease, but the game turned into a real dogfight, with Crib Point maintaining a slender lead at each break and holding off a late Rosebud charge, led by Interleague forward Ben Schultz with five goals.
Pearcedale was no match for secondplaced Rye in the final term of their clash, despite a gutsy effort to stay in touch during the first three quarters.
The Panthers allowed nine goals through its defence in the final term, to go down by 72 points.
Brendan Fraser and Shane Urbans booted four goals apiece for Pearcedale, while star Demon Stephen Ryan added another five to his season tally of 107.
In other results Sorrento sealed its berth in the 2005 finals with a solid 54point win over Dromana.
In Peninsula League, Mornington upset Frankston YCW by 16 points with goal ace Simon Goosey bagging seven majors to move to 90 goals for the year, with two games to go.
Goosey is aiming to kick his tenth century in as many years with the Bulldogs and has games against bottomplaced Hastings and Pines in which to snare the remaining 10 goals.
Chelsea had a scare against Bonbeach, falling over the line by four points, while Mt Eliza proved it’s the team to beat by downing fourthplaced EdithvaleAspendale.
