Council lobbies for road funding

CASEY Council will ask the State Government to provide money needed to upgrade the Clyde RoadEnterprise Avenue intersection at Berwick.
Edrington Ward councillor Mick Morland successfully asked the council to lobby for money needed to complete the work.
He said the intersection and Clyde Road were council’s two top priorities for roadworks.
Councillors strongly supported the move.
Cr Morland said money was provided for the Hallam Belgrave and Hallam North area that was the council’s top roads need.
He said, however, that pleas to solve problems at the Enterprise Avenue intersection had been ignored.
“Meetings have been held between council officers, Monash University and the Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce, but to no avail.
“We have funded the section of Lyall Road from the lights near the Berwick Inn to Brisbane Street.
“We will soon have four lanes on that section, but a shocking situation at Enterprise Avenue.
“I am asking for support to have the Enterprise Avenue section upgraded.”
Cr Morland said the Lyall Road section would take about 12 weeks to complete.
“Lyall Road carries large volumes of traffic and these works will improve traffic flow in that area.
“The need to upgrade Lyall Road was identified in the Berwick Village Commercial Centre Strategy 2001.
“It involves a divided four lane carriageway, drainage work, landscaping, street lighting, and associated intersection modifications, plus dedicated right and left turn lanes into abutting streets,” he said.
