Car theft spree in Emerald

PAKENHAM police are warning people to take valuable items out of their motor vehicles after a spate of thefts in Emerald recently.
Two fourwheel drives were broken into at Emerald Golf and Country Club last Thursday.
A Ford Maverick was broken into and a portable fridge freezer, CDs, sunglasses and a watch were stolen.
In the other car, a Land Rover, a UHF radio, laptop computer and clothing were taken.
The items were valued at about $5000 all up.
The thefts happened between 5.15pm and 8.05pm in the club car park. Thieves tampered with the locks of both cars.
Between 8pm Friday and 6.30am Saturday two cars were broken into on Birch Avenue. A nail gun and cordless drill valued at $1300 all up were taken from a 1991 Toyota LandCruiser. The glovebox was ransacked in a Holden Commodore but nothing was taken.
Another car was broken into at the Emerald Cemetery, sending out a warning that thefts can happen anywhere.
Detective Sergeant Phil Jury, from Pakenham CIU, said people needed to remember to keep their cars locked and, more importantly, not leave anything valuable inside. “Just because it’s at a cemetery doesn’t mean people won’t break into your car,” he said.
The Ford Festiva was broken into between 12pm and 2.30pm on 21 February and a wallet containing cash and cards was stolen.
